Dr. Abdul Ghafoor (Urdu: عبد الغفور), also known as Ghafer Shahzad is a Pakistani architect. Recently UET Lahore has issued its first Ph.D in Architecture to him.[1][2][3][4] He completed his research under the subject “To investigate the Forces Acting at Religious Magnet-The Shrine in Urban Settlements and their impact on Immediate Surrounding” under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Mahmood Hussain.
Ghafer Shahzad has already penned fifteen books on different architecture themes like structural and architectural aspects of shrines, mosques and minarets. He is Deputy Director Architecture in the Punjab Auqaf Department[5] and also member of Adjunct Faculty at Beaconhouse National University.[6] He has presented excellent and remarkable architectural designs of historical monuments like mosques, shrines throughout the Punjab and contributed in conservation and renovation of old historical monuments.
His articles and research papers have published in Urdu[7] and English[8] in National[9] and International Journals of best repute under subject of Islamic Architecture in Pakistan. He has presented many papers in Seminars and Conferences organized by Anjumn-e-Mimaran, Institute of Architects Pakistan, Research Center of National College of Arts[10] etc.
He completed his Bachelor of Architecture thesis under title "Post Independence Architecture in Lahore; He was the only successful candidate in Master of Architecture Programme in 1999 and his dissertation was under title of “Symbolic status and Metamorphosis of Minaret in Mosque Complex”.[11]
